When Is ISED Certification Required for Radio Equipment in Canada?
Do You Need ISED Certification? When and Why It’s Required for Radio Equipment
Before importing, distributing, or offering wireless equipment for sale in Canada, the product must have a valid ISED certification (Technical Acceptance Certificate or TAC). Certification is granted in accordance with RSP‑100 and the applicable Radio Standards Specifications (RSS).
Applicants located outside Canada are required to appoint a Canadian Representative as set out in RSP‑100 §4.1. The representative must sign the Application and Agreement for Certification Services (Annex A), which must remain valid for as long as the product is on the market.
Manufacturers must also ensure that equipment labeling (ISED certification number, HVIN/PMN) and user notices comply with RSS‑Gen. For devices marketed under multiple product marketing names, consult with your CB to ensure that 2025 ISED practices are satisfied.
